Have you Considered Travel or International Medical Insurance?

There are basically three types of affordable travel or international medical insurance. The first would be a comprehensive international insurance policy, which would be much like the complete coverage of your stateside policy. This type of international medical insurance would only be recommended for those that expect to spend a great deal of time in a foreign country, such as a contractor on a long term project, a college student studying abroad, or even a recent retiree planning an extended trip.
The more common affordable international health insurance that people will consider is Emergency Insurance. This would be for people that have medical insurance at home but that does not cover them for sudden or emergency treatments that may be necessary in another country. The third and perhaps the least common, and most likely not to be needed travel or international medical insurance is what is known as Evacuation Insurance. This will cover the costs if it should become necessary due to illness or severe injury that you have to be transported from a foreign country back home, and or not in the physical condition to use commercial transportation. These types of policies will often exclude injuries that occur overseas while engaging in certain "high risk" activities so it is best that you evaluate why you think you may require such a plan, and be sure that you will be covered if you will be participating in such activities.
Also if you are planning on studying overseas, or working for an extended period of time, many countries require that you have international medical insurance to obtain a work or student visa. As with all other forms of affordable individual health insurance the rate one can expect to pay vary according to the polices, and there are just as many variables when it comes to travel insurance to get the best prices. You can obtain a free quote on travel or international insurance, and shop and compare, but as always the length of the term of the policy, the cost of the deductible, and the percentage of the co-pay will all factor into the costs of the policy. Like with all affordable health insurance the lowest price isn't always the best policy, and when it comes to international insurance be sure you clearly understand your needs and the details and limitations of the policy - and Bon Voyage!
