[6/15/07]
One of the oldest and most respected names in health benefits, Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance are committed to lowering the costs of health insurance and providing more Americans access to AFFORDABLE MEDICAL COVERAGE. Blue Cross and Blue Shield Companies nationwide are showing a renewed dedication to making it easier for businesses large and small, and individuals to manage the costs of healthcare.

Blue Cross Blue Shield has always been supportive to the American worker, in fact BCBS was started to provide access to low-cost healthcare for lumber workers in the Pacific Northwest some 75 years ago. That same faithful service to the workforce remains today as Blue Cross Blue Shield Health plans now serve more than 90 million Americans in all 50 states, making BCBS the oldest and most expansive health insurance company in the nation.

With one in three Americans who have health insurance insured by a Blue Cross Blue Shield provider, BCBS has a lot of influence. And through the national organization that oversees the independently owned regional groups the Association not only is using its influence to help provide LOWER COST HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS, they are sponsoring and initiating many nationwide wellness programs through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation on Healthcare.

The Foundation has been instrumental in supporting research efforts between healthcare organizations, universities and hospitals. The foundation sponsors the efforts of organizations such as the Health Services Research Advisory Council. The HSRAC provides community outreach and worker education programs, and studies how to improve accessibility to healthcare and health services.

The Foundation is devoted to building partnerships between institutions, and to expand funding opportunities that can result in greater access to AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE and accessibility to low cost Health plans.

In other efforts to improve access to affordable medical insurance, The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association works closely with the American Association of Health plans to provide increased education to health insurance professionals through training programs and online seminars. Health insurance agents who participate in such programs can better serve the public by deepening their knowledge of the current challenges facing the medical insurance consumer, and learning how to better deal with those challenges.

As a the major provider of Healthcare plans in America, The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association recognizes the challenges facing workers and businesses, and is as committed to providing quality affordable healthcare today as they have been for the past 75 years.
